One of my recommendations for writing was to buy yourownname.com so that no one else could use it. I used hostmonster.com for mine. It came with a price set for 3 years of hosting and an exceptional bonus–I was able to transfer over other domains I have and use/don’t use. Each domain name can be used and set up as an individual site, which has saved me a pretty penny in the long run.
Now running from the same host, on one account, are about 12 domain names I own. Some redirect the page to the URLs I want to use; others are creative ideas I have that I simply don’t have time to develop yet.
Another way I was able to use this benefit was to set up a separate URL with an online gallery so that clients could see my husband’s photography work. He’ll soon have his professional one up and running, but until then, we can rest assured that potential customers are not missing out on seeing his talent. His site is 2arenow1photography.com.
All that’s left for our websites now is the necessity of a logo. With my writing & editing service, I’d like to have something with clean, simple lines that reflect the fact that I am offering two services. While a logo does not have to show what those services are, I’d rather have them be obvious than show some green squiggle with two letters on it.
Keeping in mind that today’s possible clientele list consists of 20-65 year olds, I also need to fit in with the younger business preferences–colors, more relational drawings–while not obliterating my chances of working for the older crowd–classy, formal, trustworthy. This logo will be on my site, my business cards, and my stationery. I need to make a good first impression. I suggest that if you provide a writing service that you make a logo too.
There are many online sites that help you to make a logo for free. You can also pay a graphic artist to customize one exclusively for your business, or you can buy some images and play with them on graphic software. logomaker.com, logoease.com, allfreelogo.com are all good places to start. Free graphic software is easy to find with a Google search.
